The design team for Manhattan's Fulton Center transit station wanted to maximize the light streaming in from the building’s oculus and achieve a close visual match between the fire-rated and non-rated curtain wall frames forming its two-story interior glazed “doughnut.” Technical Glass Products’ (TGP) SteelBuilt Curtainwall® System offers visual continuity with the Fireframes® Curtainwall Series fire-rated frames from TGP above them for a cohesive aesthetic. Both systems use steel tubes shaped in an extrusion-like process that allows for a wide range of narrower mullion profiles. The clean and crisp sightlines of these slender frames let light flood the station’s lower levels.
